Teneriffe Farm Campsite

Leaving Devon

It was a steady drive south on leaving Slapton. The sat nav would have us believe that the hedge lined minnow roads were the best way to bypass Plymouth rather than the A38. So words were had as we proceeded. It’s about time KB’s Google behaved itself before we pass a motion to reinstate Brian.

Stoppage was had at the aptly named Cornwall services on the A30 just before Redruth. Plenty of large Coach/caravan/motorhome parking spaces signposted from the entrance and all the major food and drink purveyors. Even an automatic launderette, should you have a hankering to dabwash whilst en route.

The Cornish roads were surprisingly good. I was constantly expecting the next corner to turn into a single-track, moss covered, high hedged nightmare; so spent almost the entire journey in suspense. Literally, the last mile up to the campsite was where the winding single track began.

We stayed at the National Trust Teneriffe Farm Campsite near the Lizard, for £160 for 4 nights including EHU on grass.

  • New clean facilities block (that was absolutely trashed and mucky twice a day)
  • Showers hot and powerful
  • Big, green field with acres of play space for the kids, which they loved.
  • Sloping. Chocks required.
  • Just about make out the sea over the top of the Teepees at the far end
  • Loads of fog or quite windy. Or both.
  • Helpful and jolly staff members on hand when the office/shop is open.
  • Middle of nowhere – you have to drive everywhere
  • No drive over grey waste, awkward access to fill water tanks
  • Little to no mobile signal or Internet for miles around.

Very green and pleasant
Happy campers
Park with your door out of the wind or you’ll be sorry
Misty mornings

Definitely worth using as a base for a longer trip, we did explore a little of the surrounding area. The good thing about that is it gives you chance to come back
