Wet at Wookey Hole

Sooooo much rain!!!

Drove through Somerset in bucketing conditions, and only really wanted somewhere to stop to make some lunch. It was serious roadside rivers and bleary windscreens, so we needed a stop off to let the rain pass over if nothing else.

Passed through Wookey, saw the car park entrance and decided to chance it – expecting another Cheddar situation with two drive-bys and failure. But it wasn’t so.

Lovely large MH bays just inside the entrance, and no parking fee, a couple of hi-vis little mesters directing traffic, so we thought we’d go and have a butchers. Ended up spending a lot more time and money than anticipated:

  • 78 quid for 2 adults and 2 kids to access all the attractions – caves, exhibitions, 4D cinema, dinosaurs, arcades, Paper Mill (?), museum, Hall of mirrors etc
  • Ice creams were dispensed at the end of the visit, I forget the price due to arguing with a bolshy southerner who tried to shove in front of us in the queue!
Cave time
2 pound for your glowsticks
Excellent child commentary

Actually had a great time, mainly because it was unexpected. After the parking situation, we decided against trying to park the van in Glastonbury and squelch up the Tor, one for another time. We moved on to pub camping…
